Tackling Boredom Fighters

It's time for Tackle It Tuesday with 5 Minutes for Mom . This week, I have been packing for our big trip. Every other year, we drive from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Oakley, Kansas for a family reunion. It is two days in the car with a 6-year-old. So, I am arming myself with all the boredom fighters at my disposal.

1. DVD Player with a wide selection of discs for quiet viewing pleasure.

2. Activity and reading books to reinforce concepts we learned this school year.

3. Blank paper in a notebook. Containment in the car is key.

4. Colored pencils in a box for drawing and writing (again with the containment). Pencils are the best because crayons melt and markers are messy also.

5. Binder is a back seat toy box and a place to press on for those masterpieces.

6. Child-proof camera for capturing the vacation from your child's point of view. The one we have has games on it too.

7. Wallet contains earned allowance to spend on souvenirs.

8. Stuffed animals for imaginative play.

9. Age appropriate music on MP3 player.

10. Snacks and juice for those between-stop munchies.

I think I have it all covered. Wish us luck:-)

I love your boredom basket. In fact it's a great idea to implement during the summer when someone is looking for something to do. Thanks for sharing.

I wish my parents would have had this forethought when we drove to Maine from Florida EVERY SINGLE summer for 10 years!
We didn't do ANYTHING! BORING!
It looks like you pretty well got it covered! Have a safe trip.

Awesome list! I'll have to remember these when we head to Disney World later this year. By the way, you should link this to Top Ten Tuesday at Oh Amanda.

cute ideas! I am sure to swipe some! I love the Camera!!

My neighbor and I were talking about the same things, they are going on a vacation with a 9 and 11 year old and she packed up a few things from the store and planned to give them out every few hours, wrapped up DVD's, coloring books, added MP3 books from the library on the mp3 players, etc. I of course don't need to have the wrapped aspect with a 2 year old but I am thinking I need a lap board for activites/coloring. Do you have a suggestion? Are you using one?

Do you know the quiet game?
My parents used to get the three siblings to play it.
We would drive from Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina - I think it was an 18 hour drive. My parents were too cheap to go to Florida and there was not way the thrifty bunch were going to fly down south. No way.
We drove down (and back up) yearly for 10 years.
Here is the rule:
Who can NOT talk the longest?
It lasted for hours.

It's sort of mean but it gets to be fun.
Enjoy the trip!
